Introducing – Playwriting Workshop I!

Barron Spotlighters is proud to present a new 5-week class for aspiring local playwrights.  Have you been wanting to finish that play idea you’ve had for years?  Do you want to hone your writing skills in a focused, small group setting?  Do you want helpful critique of your work to refine and perfect your vision?  Most of all, do you want to see a Workshop Performance of your short play through to fruition ONSTAGE at the BACC theater – open to the public, family and friends?  Then read on!

Playwriting Workshop I will be taught by local playwright Nerissa N. Nordquist.  Nerissa received her degree in Communications & Film/TV Writing from Augsburg College in St. Paul.  She has written numerous plays and musicals, with performances at the Mixed Blood Theater, Intermedia Arts, the Southern Theater, Augsburg Theater, The Loft, and beginning this fall, in London England.  Nerissa has adapted and developed scripts for accomplished documentarians and filmmakers…and now, being back in the Barron area, she will be teaching what she knows to other local artists/writers who want a fresh perspective on how to reach their goals and bring their best ideas to the stage.

Classes will be held on Tuesday nights for five consecutive weeks, one week off to prepare, then the next week is the rehearsal and final Workshop Performance.

Classes:           Tuesdays May 26, June 2, 9, 16, 23,  6-8:15pm (BACC Green Room)

Rehearsal:        Tuesday, July 7 (BACC Stage)

Performance:   Thursday, July 9 (BACC Stage)

The Course Fee is $99 per participant, which covers the entire 5-week curriculum, writing methods, development of your own short play, critique of your work by your instructor and fellow classmates, and access to the BACC Stage for the Rehearsal and Workshop Performances.  Participants must be at least 17 years of age.

The Workshop class size is limited.  Course Fees must be received no later than May 15 in order to hold your spot.  After the class size limit has been reached we will notify anyone on the wait list, should there be an open spot due to cancellation.  Course Fees for any cancellations after May 15th will be non-refundable.

The Workshop Performance will be a ticketed marathon-style theater event, open to the public.  We expect this to be an amazing event – the audience will be comprised of those who wish to see several new short plays in quick succession in one evening, written by aspiring playwrights from their own community.  We will be advertising throughout the region and hope to bring people from as far as the Twin Cities to showcase what our community has to offer.

To register, please send an email with your Name and Contact Information to barronspotlighters@gmail.com to inquire about a spot in the Workshop.  We will reply to confirm availability.  Once your spot is confirmed, please mail a check for your Course Fee (made out to Barron Spotlighters) to:
