009-2010 SEASON UNDERWAY

The shows are cast and rehearsals have begun for the first show of the season, In the Restroom at Rosenblooms. This fun comedy about the trials and tribulations of three elderly women who gather each day for support and conversation in the restroom of a large department store will be sure to delight audience members� tickle bone. You�ll laugh

your way through the evening as they fight to retain their independence ... woe on anyone

who threatens it.

You won�t want to miss this show and the others, Flaming Idiots and Just So the Musical so be sure to get your season passes now. Depending on your age, purchasing season passes saves 16% to 30% of the individual show cost and guarantees you won�t miss a single one.

ONE MORE CHANCE TO AUDITION FOR �JUST SO� THE MUSICAL

A few more excellent roles for either males or females of any age from high school up remain to be filled in Just So, Barron Spotlighters final production of the 2009-2010 season. To meet the needs of the show, the directors will be holding an additional audition at the Barron Area Community Center on Tuesday, September 29 from 6:30-9:00 PM.

Don�t miss a chance to be part of this fabulous musical which recreates Rudyard Kipling�s �Just So� stories and sets them to music. The show takes you to the banks of the great grey-green greasy Limpopo River where you meet the �Eldest Magician� and the �Elephant�s Child�. Find out how the elephant got his trunk, how the leopard got his spots, and learn other fun and fanciful stories about how the animals got the way they are. As well as being shown during our regular performance times, the show features matinees which will be offered to area schools at a great price.

The directors are looking for actors who can sing and who love to portray �make believe� characters. Plan to audition Tuesday night and become one of the Just So characters. You�ll have a great time and so will audiences when they see the show.

Auditions Are Here!

Barron Spotlighters is busy making final arrangements to host auditions for all of their 2009-

2010 shows on August 10 and 11 from 6:30-8 and August 15 from 9-12. Auditions will be held

in the Barron Area Community Center, 800 Memorial Drive, Barron, WI.

Shows being auditioned are �In the Restroom at Rosenblooms�, a touching comedy about

three elderly women who spend their days in the restroom lounge area of an old department

store, �Flaming Idiots�, a hilarious farce situated in a restaurant run by simple people, and

�Just So� a marvelous musical based on the stories of Rudyard Kipling. For more information

�In the Restroom at Rosenblooms� runs October 15-25 and features three women who can

play characters over 65, one woman of upper middle age, and nine walk-ons, either male or

female. �Flaming Idiots� runs January 21-30 and features 6 males and 2 females of any age.

�Just So� runs April 15-25 and features a large cast of fun and fantastic characters, either male

or female, and any age, youth to adult.

We know you�ll want to be involved in one of them. For information about auditions either

audition but can�t make the audition dates, let us know and other arrangements can

be made.

BARRON AREA CHILDREN PRESENT

Gary Grinkle�s Battles With Wrinkles

�Gary Grinkle�s Battles With Wrinkles� will be staged on July 31 and August 1 as the

culmination of Barron Spotlighters Children�s Theatre Camp. The vivid theatre piece,

which is all in rhyme and reminiscent of Dr. Seuss, relies heavily on the boundless

magic of words and will be great fun for children of all ages.

In Mudgeville, where the play takes place, fears � big and small � real and imagined �

abound. Gary Grinkle is never sure he�s ironed all the wrinkles out of his pants,

Maggie Magoulish can�t bear the thought of ruining her marvelous foreign shoes, and

Arnold J. Arnold is glued to his TV, waiting for one special episode of his favorite

show. All seems hopeless until Martin A. Maven moves to Mudgeville and something

magical happens ...

Both shows start at 1:30 PM and all seating is general. Cost is $3 for children 14 and

under and $5 for adults. Reservations can be made either by calling Barron

Spotlighters at 537-9212 or sending an email to tickets@barronspotlighters.org. Tickets

will also be available at the door.

30^TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON

Winners of the 2009 Awards are as follows:

Kathy Fladten, winner of the Best Female Supporting Actor award and director of the Best Show, �Prisoner of Second Avenue�; Margaret Accola, winner of the Angel of the Theatre award, Tommy Yousten, winner of the People�s Choice award for High Society, Becky Splett, winner of the People�s Choice award for �Life With Father�, and Best Female in a Lead Role for the same show; Shane Miller, winner of the Best Male Supporting Actor for his role in �Life With Father�; Bill Koslofsky, winner of the People�s Choice award for �Prisoner of Second Avenue� and Best Male in a Lead Role for the same show, and Abby Wellens, winner of the 2008-2009 Maxine Wiesner Scholarship. Missing from the picture are Amanda Arnold, winner of the High School Theatre Camp Scholarship, Pattye Miller, winner of the People�s Choice Award for �Final Intrusion�, and Jodie Swanson, winner of the Best Actor in a Minor Role award.

The 30^th anniversary season closed on June 25 with the Annual Awards and Recognition Banquet held at Four Square Church in Barron, WI. Recognition was given to outstanding actors, as well as a presentation for the Best Show, recognition of the 2008-2009 Maxine Wiesner scholarship winner, recognition of the first High School Theatre Camp scholarship winner, and presentation of a special Angel of the Theatre award.

The Barron Spotlighters present:

Youth Summer Theatre Camp

Two weeks to put on a show, but there is so

much more to do than just memorize lines.

Yes, at the end of the two weeks we will put on a one act play, but the real fun is during the two weeks. In addition to rehearsal, each day will include theatre games and hands-on projects focusing on different elements of community theatre from auditioning and acting to design and production.

� Get Ready - shine at auditions, develop acting skills, brainstorm set and costume ideas, promote the show, propose future shows.

� Set the Stage - design and build the set, create costumes and props, explore sound effects, build a team that sets a good stage picture.

It's Showtime! - At least 17 speaking parts, and 2 performances.

Anyone who attends camp and is interested in being in the show will be included. Those who don't wish to be in the show, or are unable to attend performances are still welcome to attend camp and be a part of the experience.

Camp is open to students entering 2^nd - 8^th grade, and activities will be split by age range. Limited space is also available for 1^st graders, upon approval.

Note: Registration must be returned by Tuesday, June 30^th.

CALLING ALL FRIENDS OF BARRON SPOTLIGHTERS:

CLEANUP DAY SCHEDULED

January 10 is the big day! The Barron Spotlighters Board has scheduled a cleanup day at the

Barron Area Community Center, 800 Memorial Drive, Barron, to start at 10 AM. Plan to work

until the job is done. Come early, stay late! Work hard in the morning and enjoy a lunch

brought in by one of our Board Members.

Like all community theatre groups, Barron Spotlighters has accumulated a lot of �stuff� which,

at the moment, seems to have no home. The work crew will be organizing the shop, the

storage area above the theatre, the props cabinets, and the makeup supplies. A cleanup day

to organize the costumes will be scheduled at a later time.

This is a chance for you to get to know other Spotlighters supporters and friends. We predict a

fun, if busy, day. If you�d like more information, give us a call at 537-9212 or send an email to

Prisoner of Second Avenue by Neil Simon

January 22, 23, 24, 30, 31, and February 1, 2009

Volunteer Info

Rehearsals have begun for Barron Spotlighters production of �Prisoner of Second

Avenue� scheduled to run January 22, 23, 24, 30, 31, and February 1. All shows start

at 7:30 PM except Sunday which starts at 2:00 PM.

In this hilarious comedy by Neil Simon, Mel loses his job and has a nervous

breakdown. His health and welfare is encouraged by his brother and three sisters ...

or is it? The question arises as to who is really the most crazy ... a word never

uttered by Pearl, one of his sisters. In the end, all is well, but what happens in

between will have audiences laughing out loud.

Director Kathy Fladten has assembled a cast of seasoned veterans for this show.

Mel is played by Bill Koslofsky of Chetek, his wife Edna is played by Meg Atkins of

Frederic, his brother Harry is played by Boyd Stearns of Rice Lake, and his sisters

Jessie, Pauline, and Pearl are played by Julie Reid of Rice Lake, Kathy Fladten of

Barron, and Helen Blumer of Cumberland respectively.

dollar more if purchased at the door.
